Subverting traditional classics: That was the line is transmitted about the Prada collection by design director Fabio Zambernardi backstage in the absence of Miuccia Prada, who was sadly unable to be there this season due to the passing of every aunt. If Miuccia was elsewhere, every aesthetic was fully present in a collection which literally stayed within narrow lines. It was an essay on skirt suits and coats, bisected with a graphic theme of vertical stripes, and accompanied by a wealth of every quirky accessories, signature embellishments and the swish of dozens of dangly earrings as big as Christmas-tree baubles.

The news from Milan so far has been about the retro-eclecticism drawn through an Italian sensibility. Well, if anyone is the mother of all that, it's Miuccia Prada, who has been writing the encyclopedia on it, with PhD-level footnotes and wittily allusive fashion-changing asides, for decades. This collection trod firmly on her home territory, shod in an array of elegant low-heeled shoes, each pair made in its own delicious configuration of pointiness, ankle-strapping, metallic leather, patent and suede.

As for the suits, they came in collages of checks, tweeds, and stripes, sometimes in leather and suede, here and there in transparent prints. What to make of this? For one thing, Miuccia Prada pays no heed to weather-appropriateness. In her view-which is a global one-pieced there's as much need for fur coats in summer as there is for skimpy silk slip dresses, which she layers optionally over chunky knits. There's the question of proportions, too-all loosened shoulder line and boxy shapes, and a series of waist-length jacket in brown suede and leather, it could well prove influential.

The show ended with a siren call to Prada's wealthiest constituencies: coats of metallic snakeskin and suede stripes, suits and coats and beautifully desirable organza decorated with flowers pailletted outsize transparent. One way or another, all those looks are destined to be broken down and distributed as trophies all over the realms of young Hollywood, the art world, weddings, and special occasions that Miuccia Prada knows so well.

SPRING 2017 TRENDS WEDDING DRESS
Feathers! Plunging necklines! 3D florals! The Spring 2016 bridal runways were rife with trendy details that all brides will adore.
BY LAUREN FRANKFORT
For Spring 2016, and our favorite bridal designers pulled out all of the stops, breaking through the conventional mold and spearheading new bridal styles that classic, romantic, and modern brides alike will adore.

Many of the details focused on creating new layers and adding dimension to the gowns. Whether it meant taking the beloved floral lace appliqué and making the blooms literally pop as three-dimensional embellishments, it Experimenting with sheer skirts and bodices full-on illusion. Overskirts, too, resurfaced as a play on popular silhouettes, creating the illusion of various shapes.

When creative masterminds eyes were not fooling him with magic tricks they were crafting some seriously sexy designer looks. "Sensual" was a word that a lot of designers used to credit them to collection, and it was pretty apparent with the array of deep, plunging necklines, thigh-high Angelina Jolie-esque slits, and keyhole's at the bust. Even the few pantsuits that walked the runway had a powerful feel to them.

Last but not least, the designers gravitated towards soft details that create extra movement and fluidity. Feathers were found on a lot of gowns, whether it was at the hemline, underneath a peple, she is as a waist embellishment. Wave details, too, took hold with swirling patterns replacing the perennial brocades and florals. Tiered skirts came back in a big way with flowing layers of tulle, silk and organza creating a grand finale for many of the designers' collections.
